Dead Man's Chest...

This is for all you pirate lovers! I checked out the movie and it is more action packed and fun than part one. Highly recommended, and don't read on if you do not want to read a "spoiler" but the movie ends to where you have to watch the 3rd part.

Went Riding...

Two things... One I "actually" went riding, and the second is that my HR did NOT jump and become insanly high while riding.
Because my HR didn't jump while riding... that just means that I am SUPER out of shape for running!
I have to admit though... while riding my bike I didn't realize how much I missed it! :)

Peking Acrobats...

This weekend the Dodge Arena had the Peking Acrobats. This event was different from the same ol' singers that they bring again and again. I was fortunate to be able to watch these people perform amazing stunts. What I found the most interesting is how much I related all of the discipline and focus to cycling, I know that a lot of the audience watching the show did not "appreciate" it as much as a cyclist would.

60th Anniversary

My grandparents celebrated their 60th year of being married. I don't have any pictures from the party, but I truly felt that it was worth blogging about.

"Hi" Heartrate

I am barely walking and only "thinking" of running and my HR jumps to 100! This is actually pretty typical :( What's wrong with me!? :)
p.s. I got out run by a girl last night!

An Alarming Situation

Pete, a coworker decided that he wanted an mp3 player and asked for me to go with him to BestBuy to help him pick one out. After choosing one we leave BestBuy and the alarm goes off... the guy in the front just waves us through so we proceed through the doors. As we get into his car we are driving on the expressway and I look at the mp3 player and it is STILL in the "security device!" Let me tell you from experience that if you do intend on stealing , it is extremely hard to open these things!

A Peach A Day...

ok maybe it's suppose to be an apple a day, but I once saw a cycling video where a pro cyclist was eating a peach and the guy with the camera goes up and asks why was he eating a peach does it make him ride faster??? His response was that it had vitamin A and C that Vitamin C helps retain water which is good for us while riding and also helps keep the body tempature cooler. I later discovered that Vitamin C is not naturally produced by the human body and is good for protecting the skin from UV rays.
Here are some other facts...
  • The United States provides about one-fourth (25%) of the world’s total supply of fresh peaches.
  • The peach is a member of the rose family and will have a sweet fragrance when ripe.
  • Most peaches that are imported to the United States during winter months come from Chile.
  • Peaches are the third most popular fruit grown in America.
  • peaches are virtually fat free. A medium size peach contains less than one gram of fat.
  • peaches are naturally sodium free.
  • peaches have no cholesterol.
  • peaches are a low calorie snack. A medium size peach contains only 40 calories.
  • peaches contain vitamin A which helps us see in dim light.
  • peaches are considered a good source of fiber. The skin of a peach provides both roughage and fiber.

Random Pics

Allez asked what I did with my Trek stickers so here are some pics while I am out GPS Hunting... This one is of a praying mantis that "was" chillin' on my shoulder :)
Random Signs...
If you look closely you can see the bird on the nest... I couldn't get a closer shot because I tried and he flew away :(
And last, do not park on private property or else someone will call the cops and you will have a hard time explaining what you are doing... I took this shot incognito.
Overall I just hope that you enjoy the quality of the pictures

Trek Stickers

Ok NOT this Trek sticker...

I e-mail Nick Martin a couple of days ago asking him for some Trek stickers and he comes through again! I didn't think that he would ship them out that fast though! We knew he was obviously fast on the bike and I feel bad because he's on the road right now. I just want for you to know that I am NOT selling them on e-bay but he sent 50 stickers and right now they are going for 7 dollars for 4 haha. E-bay auction click the link Piojo it's safe I swear ;)

Memorial Weekend Pics

This first pic cracks me up, I think this is what it would be about if rapper Little John was "Hispanic."What caught my attention with this bridge is the fact that it was built straight out and then cement steps were added up to meet the bridge.
"The Blue Hole" I found this interesting because it is the "source" of the San Antonio River Walk.
This is by the Quarry, it's what's behind it that's interesting ;)
We should just plain out have more of these!
Becareful where you STEP!
This was taken at the Japanese Tea Garden while in SA. It is still underconstruction and STILL attracts tourists.
I think over all it was pretty different to go to San Antonio and NOT go to the usual River Walk, Sea World, Fiesta Texas, or common attractions like that.

Kung Fu Lady

Every Hotel should have one of these...

Mt. Everest

If you don't want to read the article about the climbers I'll shorten it up for you... Bascially 40 climbers saw a "fellow" climber dying from lack of oxygen, they all felt that the mountain was more important and left him to die. Here's the article if you want to read more. "dying climber" so my point is here is that it's not just in cycling that we leave a weak man down!

Nike Plus iPod

I think that this concept is an idea in the making! :) Jeef sent me this link probably in Mochary but I feel that the concept is there, but at this time in the market that it might fail. I think that it would be hard for a runner to check your "stats" while the device is strapped to your arm, so you'll most likely have to WAIT till you get home to know exactly where you are at! :( and we all know that in this day and age that we want to know now!

Express Yourself

Ok I have been thinking lately and recently realized the "new" word for the decade... well atleast in business it is Express ;) I'll give you a short recap of how my week went this weekend. I flew out for business and I sat next to the Dean of Business for STC. He asked what I did and where I was going... so I told him this.
This morning I woke up with an "espresso" to put on my "Express Suit" I then rode the ME or "McAllen Express" to get to the airport to fly on the "Continential Express," which I paid for with my "American Express" through e-mail on my "Outlook Express" after I landed in Lubbock, TX I checked into the "Holiday Inn Express" to discuss my company's new building "The Express Recovery Unit." And if I forgot anything in Lubbock, TX they said that they would mail it to me via "Federal Express"

Graduation Weekend

Some very important people around me recently had their graduation from UTPA. "congrats! going off topic some of my guests showed me this new webpage and I found it to be very interesting... geocache.com I guess that you can go to the website to check it out and read more about it, but here is a quick review
You need:
  • Internet
  • GPS
  • Good Shoes
  • Flashlight "at night"
  • Pen
  • Trinquets

After you gather these tools then you look it up on the site and find the one's that you want to "search" for. Below are some pics from the hunt.

This last pic is of a Taco with a serial number on it! haha

Nike Triax C8 HR Monitor

I guess it was time for me to finally give in and get a new watch. I ended up with this purchase and so far satisfied with with only one "test run" so far. It has a large display indiglo if you run/ride in the dark like me, it shows the HR at the top and the time at the bottom "good for intervals" and then it has the average HR being able to save a total of 50 laps, which I think already is too many since I most likely will reset it after each use since I have bikejournal and coolrunning depending on my exercise for the day. Oh yeah... and the price is pretty reasonable in my opinion. I have to thank Allez for pushing me to get the new HRM.

Lately I have been slacking off, because of everything that I am trying to balance with the full time job, and school full time. So I "think" that I will try to focus on running more right now since it is a "faster" workout. But we will see how that plays out! :)

P2P

or Pedal to Padre... I did not attend this event for the first time ever since I began riding a bike. The first time I actually did this event was when my brother used to ride. Also there was A-Ron, Piojo, and some other guy that was able to keep up with us. Since there really were not that many people at the event we formed out own little "peleton" and left the P2P group, that day it was A-Ron that was the strongest but we still had to wait almost an hour before someone else actually showed up to keep us company. Today pedal to padre is one of the biggest events here in South Texas and has only been followed with success and a large attendance. I hope that those that did attend, had a lot of fun and maybe will post something about their experience! :)
On Friday I went to a backyard boxing match in Donna, that was pretty interesting and I actually had more fun than expected. The only reason I went was because a friend of mine gave me five reserved tickets. My cousin took some pics, so if he e-mails them to me I'll post them. ;)

Storm Season...

We all know that storm season is soon approaching us and is suppose to be worse than ever... here is my idea of Piojo and A-Ron STILL riding rain or shine! ;)

Horcycle...

this is a way to save gas... I saw this on halfbakery.com but I also felt that it was too funny NOT to share! :)

horcycle make a 4-weeled-bicycle for horses

Ok so the oil is running out. How are we going to get around? I suggest going back to horses, but in a totally different way!
The average running speed of a man is around 24km/hr. The average speed on a bike is double, at 50km/hr.
Horses can sustain 80km/hr. Imagine how fast they'd go on a bike! Well over the speed limit anyway. It would be so much more efficient than petrol motors.
There are a lot of technical and perhaps moral difficulties with this idea. However, I think it is possible to engineer any such machine if the problem is clearly defined; certain breeds of horses could learn to become quite comfortable with the device, especially if exposed from birth.
Technical problems - breaking, balance, gears, training the horse.
Moral problems - car crashes, comfort of horse, potential for animal abuse.
To me, these seem like the kinds of problems that can be overcome, and I've already got a few ideas, but I'd better stop now while it's still half-baked :)
